Building Your Place in Costa Rica
Buying land gives you the freedom to design exactly what you want—a home with a view, a small retreat or a long-term project. The hills above the Central Pacific coast offer cooler air, privacy and ocean views, while the Nicoya Peninsula offers space and a slower pace.
Land also takes a little more homework than a finished home. We know the areas and the questions to ask, and we can introduce you to the local contacts who can help along the way.

Land for Sale: FAQs
Can foreigners buy land in Costa Rica?
Yes. Foreigners can generally own titled land in Costa Rica with the same rights as citizens. Land within the maritime zone along the beach is the main exception and is held under concessions with different rules.
What should I check before buying land?
Work with an independent Costa Rican attorney to confirm the title and registered survey plan, access to a public road, and the availability of water and electricity. If you plan to build, ask about zoning and building permits early.
Can I build right away?
Building requires permits from the local municipality, and some projects need environmental approvals. Timelines vary, so it’s worth talking to a local architect or builder before you buy.
Is there land with ocean views?
Yes. The hills of Bijagual and above Herradura and Jaco offer some of the best ocean views on the Central Pacific coast. Tell us the view and lot size you’re after and we’ll help you find options.
How do I get started?
Tell us what you’re looking for—area, lot size, budget and what you plan to build—and we’ll be in touch.
